4th International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration

25 - 27 October, 2021

Ensuring Safe Education for All: From Commitment to Practice

The Government of Nigeria, together with the Governments of Argentina, Norway, Spain, and the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA), were pleased to host the Fourth International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration, taking place on October 25-27, 2021.

The overarching theme of the Conference were “Ensuring Safe Education for All: From Commitment to Practice”. The Safe Schools Declaration (SSD), a political commitment to protect education during armed conflict, has been endorsed by 108 states, well over half of all UN members. The Conference, the first to be held in Africa, and in a country experiencing attacks on education, provided an opportunity to galvanise support for, and accelerate implementation of, the SSD by bringing together Member States, practitioners, and civil society to share good practice and strengthen cooperation, to save lives and safeguard the right to education for all.
