The EiE Hub’s Flagship Report for 2023, on Education in Emergencies and Climate Change, will be launched at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, in Building A, Room V, from 15.00-17:00 on World Children’s Day, 20 November. On this day, the 34th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), we look to take another step forward towards addressing the most urgent needs of children and young people worldwide. The launch is being co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations in Geneva, and the EiE Hub.
This Flagship Report is the first dedicated to laying out how climate change impacts the right to learning of crisis-affected and displaced children and youth. It looks at what the education in emergencies sector is already doing in this field, as well as the key opportunities it should embrace – singly and in collaboration with other sectors – to contribute towards transformative climate action.
Climate change has gained central prominence in global policy dialogues. Yet, there remains a deficiency in awareness of how it impacts education in crisis situations, as well as the proactive measures being taken within the education sector – and across the nexus – to address climate-related issues. Through this flagship report, the EiE Hub is addressing these critical gaps.
This is vital information for policy makers, opinion formers and decision takers operating across the nexus existing between human (and child) rights, development, peace, climate and environment, and humanitarian sectors, as well as for climate and global education funders and donors.
Simultaneous interpretation in French and Spanish will be available.
