Putting young people at the centre of humanitarian action and prioritizing education in emergencies to accelerate sustainable development – an ECOSOC HAS side event

The EiE Hub, together with UNICEF, UNFPA and the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action, will hold a joint side event on EiE, youth and financing during the 2024 ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, on Friday, 28 June, from 4 – 5:15 pm CEST / 10 – 11:15 am EDT. The event will take place in Conference Room 3 at the UNHQ in New York, and online.

As humanitarian crises grow in number and complexity, it is crucial that the humanitarian system better addresses young people’s specific needs, prioritizes education in emergencies, and engages children and young people meaningfully in humanitarian action.

Children and young people consistently prioritize education in emergencies, and this has never been more critical to safeguarding and investing in the future of children and youth. This panel discussion aims to delve into the vital intersection of youth engagement, youth-led organizations, and education in emergencies, emphasizing their pivotal roles in communities affected by humanitarian crises and in safeguarding the wellbeing and prospects of children and youth. It will explore the multifaceted challenges faced and opportunities identified in humanitarian contexts by young people and the crucial role education plays in providing stability, hope, and opportunities for their future.
