Acting Ahead to Protect Education Investments—Why the need for proactive approaches to crises is more urgent than ever

Conflict, violence, the climate crisis, food insecurity, forced displacement and the aftereffects of COVID-19 continue to disrupt education systems around the world, and to deny millions of children the opportunity to learn and thrive. 234 million school-aged children are affected by crisis and in urgent need of quality education, including 85 million children who are out of school.
Even if crises are unavoidable, their worst impact is not. Forward thinking and action such as preparedness and Anticipatory Action (AA) lead to more effective responses that ensure learning continuity and quality, and contribute to the protection of children and youth in crisis situations. Additionally, amid tightening aid budgets and growing, complex crises, it is crucial to ensure that we make the best use of the resources available.
In light of this, the EiE Hub will launch its 2025 flagship report, which will make the case at a strategic policy level for anticipatory and preparedness approaches in education in emergencies and overall, grounded in examples and evidence. The flagship report will also bring compelling key messages to policymakers across sectors and the nexus, donors and peers to drive policy change, increase funding and position education within broader preparedness and AA discussions.
The launch event will take place on Thursday, 12 June, 9-10:30am CET at the Varembé Conference Centre in Geneva, and online. It is co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Brazil, Colombia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to the UN in Geneva, and the EiE Hub.
Kindly note that the registration deadline is COB on Friday 6th June.
